Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise

Ark Media is currently in production on BLACK AMERICA SINCE MLK: AND STILL I RISE , a four-hour PBS series that will take viewers on an unprecedented journey through the soaring triumphs, bitter struggles, and profound contradictions of the last fifty years of African American history. After the civil rights movement’s landmark legal victories, many believed that racial equality was right around the corner at last. In AND STILL I RISE, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will take a deeply personal odyssey to understand what followed that moment of promise, foregrounding the experiences of real people, famous and unknown, who reshaped America over the last five decades. Drawing on culture, politics, eyewitness accounts, and social analysis, the series will illuminate our recent past while raising urgent questions about the future of the African American community--and our nation as a whole. AND STILL I RISE is slated for prime-time national broadcast in 2016.
